Population
Most would say North Smithfield is a low key, rural town, or just a less populated version of Smithfield, but it’s got more in common with suburbia than your typical rural town. It’s a very green town, there’s a little bit of development everywhere, spreading everything out so there aren’t any densely developed areas. North Smithfield lacks a true center of town type of focal point, the closest thing to it would be the N Main st/Victory highway intersection, and the surrounding area. There’s a decent presence of business and industry spread throughout the town. Similar to Smithfield, North Smithfield has the reputation of being a place where some of RI’s affluent population targets, to leave behind the more suburb/city type of life. There are also a few senior communities spread throughout North Smithfield. Traditionally, North Smithfield residents stay in their homes longer than the average homeowner.

North Smithfield real estate is more desirable than other towns, as many locals see moving to North Smithfield as an upgrade. It is possible to find a single family home in the $300k-$400k range, about 1/2 the homes are under $450k, while the other 1/2 can exceed $1mil. Since 2015, there have only been about 15-20 new homes built, so development is slow, which is most likely the way the town wants it to be. There aren’t many condos, only about 160 were bought & sold in the past 4 years. As to be expected, they are cheaper, but not much less than the average cost of a single family home. The majority of condos sold between $300k-$400k, and over that same span the median single family home sold for roughly $400k-$450k. About 1/4 of the homes in North Smithfield are multi-family homes.
Aside from the stretch of Rt. 146 where the drive-in and car dealerships are, there’s no traffic pain points to fear in North Smithfield.
Food and drink establishments are not vast or diverse, but there are some. Similar to other nearby towns, there are local chain restaurants that are well supported by the community. Mostly along Rt. 146, from the Rt. 146/146A split to the Burrillville border.
