Population

Most would say Barrington is a pleasant, quaint, and quiet suburban coastal town. If you don’t like the water, then don’t move to Barrington, even though there are parts inland, it’s not that far inland, there are bodies of water on almost all sides! It’s an aesthetically appealing town, where even some of the retail plazas are matching throughout. Barrington is one of the most affluent communities in Rhode Island, and it shows as it’s not overly commercialized like other towns. The town and schools have consistently ranked in the tops in the country, earning some the National Blue Ribbon designation. It’s only 8sq miles of land, but many find this town to be a very desirable town to live. Even though it’s small, there’s some large public greenspaces for all to enjoy.

Fun Facts

  • 8.2 sq miles (roughly 7 sq miles of water)

Real Estate

Barrington real estate is desirable, but not overly competitive due to the price point. The majority of single family homes are over $500k, and the ones that are below are most often older and/or small. Every neighborhood has trees, so much so that Barrington has earned the Tree City USA recognition. It’s common for homes to be valued well over $1mil, and condos are not easily had. There was a new condo complex built in 2021, which accounts for all condo sales in the past decade+ (22). There has been light development, roughly 76 new single family homes have been built and sold since 2015. Some 1 level homes can be found, but the majority of homes are 2-3 level homes.

Traffic

Barrington traffic is pretty easy, thanks to it’s light retail presence. As expected, the only real pain point of traffic is around the retail plazas on the main drag of Rt 114. There are some main streets intersecting Rt 114 there, on top of the retail presence, and a few traffic lights, all of that equals congestion. Otherwise, enjoy the traffic free life in Barrington.

Food & Drink

Food and drink establishments are not in abundance in Barrington. There are some over near the retail plazas on Rt 114 and Maple Ave near Rt 114, but beyond that you’ll have to venture to a nearby town for dining/bars, and I think residents like it that way. So you can’t go down the street to grab a pizza or other form of take out in Barrington, unless you live near the Maple ave and Rt 114 intersection.

Activities

There are many youth activities/sports available in Barrington, and some adult activities at the library, YMCA, and Peck center.  Barrington has a lot of green space, most notably the Veterans Memorial Park. Being a coastal town there are multiple public waterway access points to the ocean. There’s 1 golf course (private), a few beaches, playgrounds, marinas, and even a dog park! For exciting nightlife though, you’ll have to venture to another town. Map of public land to enjoy and more info about each HERE
