Most would say East Greenwich is a balanced town of pleasant, quiet neighborhoods filled with plenty of green….and some lively retail/dining areas allowing some loud-ish fun times. Similar to Johnston, I’d say East Greenwich is a gateway city….the dense neighborhoods and retail by the Warwick & North Kingstown borders dissipates into spacious far less dense green neighborhoods as you venture to the western and southern borders of town. East Greenwich is looked upon as a desirable, more affluent area to live, similar to Smithfield and North Smithfield. East Greenwich has a small area of water access to the ocean, which they make full use of as it’s completely developed with marinas, businesses, and they even stuck a park in there!

Real Estate

Cranston real estate is more desirable than other towns, with the majority of single family homes ranging anywhere from $300k-$1mil+. There are densely packed neighborhoods with little green/trees, to very aesthetically appealing neighborhoods with many very tall trees! There’s a good mix of 1 level and 2 level homes throughout the town, both are easily found. There are a decent amount of condos ranging from $150k-$400k, more than other towns can offer. There hasn’t been much new development of homes, but there has been a good amount of house flipping done the past 5 years. Cranston has more desirable neighborhoods than non-desirable.  

Traffic

East Greenwich traffic is fairly predictable and avoidable. Rt. 1 is by far the worst spot for traffic, but that’s because of all the retail and dining located along that route, and it being a single lane road with many dense residential neighborhoods branching off of it. Even on weekends it can be congested, so expect to travel no faster than 30mph and be ready to press your brake at all times, as there’s lots of walking traffic, especially on the nice weather days. Otherwise, Rt. 2 near the West Warwick/Warwick borders, and most main roads that intersect with Rt. 1 are the other pain points. Beyond that, enjoy a traffic free life. 

Food & Drink

Food and drink establishments are not many being a smaller town, but the few they have are mostly good quality and have diverse offerings. You won’t find much for national chain restaurants here, and I think most prefer it that way (Have no fear, you can still get your Dunkin’ fix in East Greenwich). Many from nearby towns will come out to dine in East Greenwich, mainly along Rt. 1 because the offerings are that good. There’s also some other dining and retail along Rt. 2. Otherwise, enjoy the aesthetics of the green neighborhoods that go on and on!

Easy Accessibility to I-95 and Rt. 4 (Rt. 4 branches off I-95 and provides a faster route around the slow parts of Rt. 1 in Warwick, East Greenwich, and North Kingstown), then connects to Rt. 1 providing access to the Southern coastline of the state.

There are many youth activities/sports available in East Greenwich. The town publishes a flyer of programs, activities, etc…for each season of the year. Residents can sign up to have them emailed to them, or access them online HERE. At that link there’s also a tab listing hiking trails in the town, and rules/regs for the Harbor. Here’s a link programs offered by the town HERE. There’s 1 golf course in East Greenwich (public). Even though it’s a green town, there aren’t many parks to utilize, but Goddard Park in Warwick is right across the border. Walking along Rt. 1, the shops and restaurants, with some historical building to see too along the way is a nice relaxing (and popular) activity.
