Population
Most would say Cranston is a perfect example of a balanced suburbia town. It has loud parts, it has quiet parts, it has pretty neighborhoods, it has not so pretty neighborhoods…it’s very similar to Warwick, minus the coastline. It’s right there with Warwick for population too, behind only Providence at the top spot for the state. Also, like Warwick, Cranston has been named among the top 100 cities to live in the US on and off in various articles. Some desirable neighborhoods are Edgewood, Garden City, Dean Estates, Garden Hills, and Western Cranston. RI’s main DMV branch is in Cranston, as is a maximum security prison, the attorney generals office, NBC 10 News, and soon to come RI’s first TopGolf facility. Most of the city has trees in their neighborhoods, especially the western area. Cranston has everything anyone could want, except for a sandy beach.

Cranston real estate is more desirable than other towns, with the majority of single family homes ranging anywhere from $300k-$1mil+. There are densely packed neighborhoods with little green/trees, to very aesthetically appealing neighborhoods with many very tall trees! There’s a good mix of 1 level and 2 level homes throughout the town, both are easily found. There are a decent amount of condos ranging from $150k-$400k, more than other towns can offer. There hasn’t been much new development of homes, but there has been a good amount of house flipping done the past 5 years. Cranston has more desirable neighborhoods than non-desirable.
Cranston traffic has it’s moments of frustration for sure, mainly along the main roads of Park ave, Pontiac ave near Rt. 37, Reservoir ave around park ave and Rt 10, and various parts of Cranston st. during the typical morning and afternoon commute times. Otherwise, traffic for the most part is normal/nothing that would qualify as congestion.
Food and drink establishments are sprinkled throughout Cranston. As one can expect from a city with 80k+ people, there are a lot of restaurants and a decent amount of bars too. There are some national chains, but the are by far out numbered and less popular than the mom & pop restaurants/local chains. Cranston in particular has a wide variety of offerings, but there absolutely no shortage of Italian and pizza establishments. Recently, as of 2023, Ben & Jerry’s returned to Cranston to the same area, Garden City.
