Most would say Medford is a charming, down to earth city. Medford has a lot of historical attributes and stories, like most towns around Boston. Medford isn’t as dense as some of it’s neighbors, resulting in a quieter suburbia feeling, rather than a busy city feeling. Many streets are tree lined with multi-floor homes, although South Medford and Wellington tend to have less trees. Just recently (2022) the light rail Green line has made it’s way to Medford at Tufts University. Previously, the only public transportation was MBTA bus service, 1 light rail Orange line station, and 1 commuter rail station in West Medford (priced the same as a light rail station because of being in zone 1A). The ride from West Medford to North station is 7 min. The light rail Orange line station is at Wellington right on the Malden line. Medford has a little bit of everything for residents and visitors to enjoy. There are normal dense and lighter neighborhoods, large and small retail plazas, a busy walker friendly city center with retail and dining, a quieter ruralish area, large green space w/hiking trails, a lake for canoe and light boating, and small industrial pockets. Street parking is allowed and free, during snow emergencies residents can only park on 1 side of the street, changing each year. Traditionally, Medford residents stay in their homes longer than the average homeowner, but that’s expected to change with the older population being replaced.
